Q: Is there more to the Organic Bakies story?
A: After hearing more and more about the devastating effects pesticides and conventional farming methods are having on our planet and the humans who inhabit it, I decided to put my baking skills to good use! I've always loved to create baked goods and since I had a hard time finding tasty organic products in the stores, I decided to make them myself, and sell them to others who enjoy flavorful, fresh treats.
Q: What are Bakies?
A: Bakies were initially cookies (because they are "baked" not "cooked") but we have used the term to encompass all of the delicious baked goods we offer.
Q: Where are you located?
A: Organic Bakies is based in beautiful Durham, North Carolina. We don't yet have a storefront, but our products may be purchased through the Bella Bean Organics Online Farmer's Market and this website.
Q: I don't live in the Triangle Area, do you ship the Bakies?
A: We ship all of our products except frosted cakes and cupcakes. Additionally, we will ship unfrosted cupcakes and include the ingredients to make your own frosting by simply adding organic butter and milk. If you would like to get information about pricing and ordering please Contact Us.
Q: Are local ingredients used in Bakies?
A: We LOVE to support our local agriculture! We use pumpkins and strawberries from Vollmer Farm. Our sweet potatoes come from Nash Produce in Nashville, NC and Pine Knot Farm in Orange County, NC. The eggs are from Latta Egg Ranch, just up the road in Hillsborough, NC. Our flour comes from Lindley Mills in Graham, NC - this mill's history dates back to the Revolutionary War!
Q: I don't see what I want to order listed on your website, do you make other baked treats?
A: Yes! We can make almost anything you'd like! At this time we do not offer gluten-free products. Please Contact Us with any questions or special requests - we'd love to hear from you!
Q: Is the Organic Bakies packaging kind to the planet?
A: The packagingfor Organic Bakies is all biodegradable and compostable. When you give or receive Organic Bakies as a gift, there is nothing to throw away. After the delicious cookies are devoured, just add a little soil to the plastic wrappers and the paper shreds in the box. Tear up and sprinkle the seed paper tag on top, add water and you'll have a little garden in a few short weeks.
Q: What makes your Bakies organic?
A: Our baked goods are made with certified organic flour, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, nuts and organic and fair trade chocolate and cocoa. We also use local, North Carolina honey and seasonal, pesticide-free fruit from local farmers. Here is information about the National Organic Program -
